AviationPilot qualifications
On the ground, the examiner gives you a flight scenario and you show that you may act as pilot in command under VFR: your certificate with its privileges and limits, your medical certificate or BasicMed, your recent flight experience and the documents you must carry. It is Task A of Area I, Preflight Preparation, in the FAA Private Pilot Airman Certification Standards, the checkride every private pilot flies.
Free to startThe steps
- Apply the requirements to act as pilot in command under Visual Flight Rules in the scenario the examiner gives you.
Safety rules that stop the station
- Failing to exercise risk management is unsatisfactory.
- If you do not use sound aeronautical decision-making, including single-pilot resource management, the examiner marks the task as failed.
To pass
- The pilot-in-command requirements applied correctly to the examiner's scenario.
- Know the certification requirements, recent flight experience and logbook records, your privileges and limitations, medical certificate classes, expiration and temporary disqualifications, the documents you must carry, BasicMed privileges and limits, proficiency versus currency, and the risk of flying an unfamiliar airplane or unfamiliar avionics.
- Missing the standard on this task fails the task and its area of operation.
