FirefightersKnots and hoisting: Hoist a charged hose line
Hoist a charged hose line. With protective gear, tools, ropes and an assignment, you tie three knots, then use one of them to hoist a tool securely. It is station 4-14 of Ohio's Firefighter I practical exam (NFPA 1001 4.3.20).
Free to startThis scenario
- Hoist a charged hose line.
The steps
- Tie three knots correctly from this list: bowline; clove hitch; figure eight follow-through with an overhand safety; figure eight on a bight with an overhand safety; becket (sheet) bend with an overhand safety.
- Tie a secure, appropriate knot from that list and hoist one piece of equipment from the scenarios to show the knot holds.
- No unsafe act during the evaluation.
To pass
- All 3 steps.
- The equipment does not have to be lifted all the way, but weight must be put on it and on the knot to show the hoist would work.
- If 4-13 and 4-14 are both drawn, this station can be evaluated during vertical ventilation, with a longer time limit.
- The evaluator can stop the station at any time for an unsafe act.
