SportsAnkle taping: horseshoes
Horseshoes run from the outer side of the foot anchor, straight back around the Achilles and forward on the inner side to the anchor. Three strips, each half a width higher than the one before, alternated with the stirrups to weave the basket.
Free to startScenarios
- Three stirrups first, then the three horseshoes.
- Stirrups alternated with the horseshoes, for the basketweave effect.
The steps
- Start firmly and fully on the outer side of the foot anchor.
- Run the tape straight back so its upper edge crosses the most prominent point of the outer ankle bone.
- Continue straight around the Achilles.
- Come forward on the inner side so the upper edge crosses the most prominent point of the inner ankle bone, and seal the tape fully and firmly on the foot anchor.
- Seal the strip down securely before the next step.
- Second horseshoe: start about half a width higher than the first and keep that half-width overlap along the whole strip.
- Third horseshoe: half a width higher again, keeping the overlap; its end usually crosses over its beginning.
Safety rules that stop the station
- Hold the foot at 90 degrees, neutral or slightly turned out, during the whole procedure.
To pass
- Every horseshoe crosses the most prominent point of both ankle bones.
- Half-width overlap kept and every strip sealed on the foot anchor.
