General
Is Making Synapses free?
Making Synapses is free to start: you get 30 free cases to play, and each case you play uses one. After that, 10 cases stay free forever. A subscription unlocks every case, and a subscriber can share their cases with friends or classmates in multiplayer, as long as the subscriber hosts the session and stays connected.
How does Making Synapses use AI?
The AI patient understands what you ask, by voice or by typing, and answers out loud from the clinical script of each case, with an AI voice in your language. When you close the encounter, the Making Synapses AI Attending scores your checklist from 0 to 100% and gives you instant feedback on what you did and what you missed.
Why is Making Synapses the best medical simulator?
Making Synapses is the most educational and complete medical simulator ever made: an AI patient you talk to or type to, an AI-scored checklist with instant feedback, PC and VR, multiplayer with your class and 705 AI clinical cases in 5 languages, free to start. No other simulator brings all of this together.
What is Making Synapses?
Making Synapses, the medical simulator, is an AI virtual patient simulator for PC and VR made by Alehundred Studios. Every case runs as an OSCE station: one AI patient, a step-by-step checklist and a score.
Which programs and exams does Making Synapses cover?
Medicine (MD and DO), Physician Assistant, Nursing and EMS, with the main exams of six countries: United States (USMLE, COMLEX-USA, PANCE, NCLEX, NREMT), United Kingdom (UKMLA, PLAB, NMC OSCE), France (ECOS), Canada (MCCQE, NCLEX-RN, REx-PN, COPR), Australia (AMC Clinical, NMBA OSCE) and Germany (Kenntnisprüfung, Notfallsanitäter). Every case runs as an OSCE station.
What do I need to play?
A PC with mouse and keyboard, or a VR headset. Steam wishlists open in November and the Meta Quest version arrives in December.
Which languages does Making Synapses speak?
English, Spanish, French, German and Simplified Chinese. The AI patient talks to you in the language you choose, and the 705 cases are written in all five.
Can I practice with my classmates?
Yes. Play solo or in multiplayer with your class, and if you want, an educator runs the room.
Can I write my own cases?
Yes, with any subscription. Create a case from scratch, or copy a base case and change it, checklist included, and practice it with an AI patient. Share your cases with your group when you host. If you are an educator, you can also assign them to your students.
Is Making Synapses affiliated with the exam boards?
No. Making Synapses cases are written by Alehundred Studios from the public content outlines of each exam. The exam names are used only to describe what each case trains.
Can I suggest words or actions for Making Synapses?
Yes. In the game's chat, press the yellow Suggest tab and write the word or phrase Blocky did not understand, or the action you need. It reaches us with the case and the language, without your name or email. Your suggestions are how Making Synapses improves and grows.
Institutions
How do educators use Making Synapses?
Educators set up the cases on the web, choose the AI patient each student meets, and every change reaches the simulator live. Results are saved per student, with a dashboard for the whole class.
How are students assessed?
Every case has a step-by-step checklist scored from 0 to 100%. Teach, Train and Test modes go from guided practice to a standardized encounter with no hints and a time limit, and every attempt is saved for the educator.
Does Making Synapses follow simulation best practice?
Yes. Sessions follow the INACSL Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice: prebriefing, facilitation, debriefing and evaluation.
How does my school get Making Synapses?
Sign in with Google, choose School or educator, and write to contact@alehundred.com to enable the seats for your students.
Learners
Can I practice on my own?
Yes. Create a personal account, play the 30 free AI patient cases (then 10 stay free forever), and repeat any case as many times as you want, at any hour. You can also write your own cases.
How does the OSCE exam button work?
Pick your program and press OSCE exam: Making Synapses gives you a random AI patient from your program in Test mode, with no hints and a time limit, like the real station.
Are my results saved?
Yes. Every attempt is saved in your account with its score, so you can see how you improve before your exam.
Do I have to talk out loud?
No. You can talk to the AI patient with your voice or type your questions, whichever you prefer.
Does the patient act the same every time?
No. Each case starts with a random personality: a talkative patient comments, complains and adds details when answering; a quiet one gives short answers and barely moves; most are in between. Like with real patients, you adapt to each one.
